From Varanasi to Liverpool to…Grapevine, Texas?

For those that don't know, it was another hot one, today! The sun is down and it's still 97°. I worked out in it, too. I was mucking out my boat stall. Lots of treasures in there.(dead fish, rotting leaves, tourist litter, etc.) but I would only do it for 15 or 20 min. at a time, then wash off with a hose, go in the house and drink iced tea. I get to do it tomorrow, too! Ah, the joys of home ownership. Yes, I'm being slightly facetious. Someday soon though, I will be free. That's enough about work. I have thought all day about how I was going to write this post. It is a history lesson, of sorts. Do you remember Ravi Shankar? Here, let me refresh your memory....

Here are some things about Mr. Shankar, I bet you didn't know. (from Wiki):
still alive 91 years old
Shankar married Allauddin Khan's daughter Annapurna Devi in 1941. Shankar separated from Annapurna in the 1940s and had a relationship with Kamala Shastri, a dancer, beginning in the late 1940s. An affair with Sue Jones, a New York concert producer, led to the birth of Norah Jones in 1979. In 1981, Anoushka Shankar was born to Shankar and Sukanya Rajan, whom Shankar had known since the 1970s. After separating from Kamala Shastri in 1981 Shankar lived with Sue Jones until 1986 and married Sukanya Rajan in 1989. Norah Jones became a successful musician in the 2000s, winning eight Grammy Awards in 2003.Anoushka Shankar was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best World Music Album in 2003.

Here's daughter number one....

Here's daughter number two, doing duets with some of our old friends. Keith never really could sing, so Nora is certainly a compliment to his style...

Two Great Texans!

Isn't Willie a marvelous treasure? He really is one of my favorites. I'm very blessed, because I had an opportunity to drink coffee and have a conversation with him. I love Texas! Here's a Willie duet that I've been listening to this week. This song, in fact, the whole album, saw me through some tough times.

another one from the same album

I am very tempted to get the Harley out and go on a night cruise. I hope it cools off soon. . I appreciate ya'll stopping by, but you already knew that, didn't you?

  1. OK, I admit it, you got me on Norah Jones . Don't remember ever hearing of her. But I pretty much gave up on country music when these wanna be rocker kids came along .

And Yes Sir, Willy is a Texas Treasure. Good thing we aren't limited to having to pick only one of his as favorite. Couldn't do it.

Watch that you don't over heat today being outside in this sun!!!!

  3. I always like when my fellow experts agree with me. Two things today...go to the dentist (on Saturday?), and look for a laptop replacement.(or a repair shop dammit). My fairly new HP laptop comes on and flickers a little and then it goes black. I can fix some problems, but this is way beyond my skills.

  5. Ben~ I'm really kind of pissed about this. If I can't get it fixed, I will have to dole out another $700 or $800.

  8. Thanks for the history on Norah. I didn't know any of it!

Tulsa State Fair 1976. Willie and Waylon and the Boys. One of the highlights of my mis-spent youth. Yes, 25 is young.
