Yes, It’s Hot….So Why Don’t We Chill?

I don't know how the weather is where you are, but here it's hot! It got up to 107° yesterday. We have had less than 1/4 inch of rain since last October. At least, my yard's not suffering. Several years ago, I got tired of dragging around the water hoses and sprinklers, and paying the high water bill. So for less than $900, we installed a sprinkler system in my yard. I hired two young, strong fellows to do the digging, and I did all the mechanical work. One of the benefits of living on a lakefront is a ready supply of water. There is a water restriction in effect from the County. You can't water during most of the daylight hours, basically. No problem, I don't water with the County water supply. Here's how I did it.....

Here is my electric water pump and
the supply line running to the lake

"Free" water

I took my dear sweet Mary to Walmart again today. That's twice this week, so far. It seems as if I have become her caretaker. Well, to be honest, it's a pleasure and an honor for me to help her. Even though we started out as neighbors, now we have more of a mother/son type relationship. I have taken on the task of sharing my dinners with her, which is also a pleasure for me. I love to cook and it's almost depressing to cook for one person. The best part of it is, she thinks I'm a fantastic cook and eats anything that comes from my kitchen. Plus, I get so much praise and so many accolades from her, it's almost embarrassing. She told me something today that I thought was over the top, as far as touching my heart went. She says "I do two things every day, I floss, and I pray that your house will go ahead and sell and you get a good price for it." That is touching, isn't it? I have to admit, I'm going to miss my Mary, when I start my full- timing adventure.

I had told you that I have a lot of things to do this week. Well, here it is Wednesday, and I've made progress. I've cleaned up quite a bit around here, and I've been working on my 'house for sale' website. Everything I've done on that website is still in draft form, but I am ready to release the web address.

I feel very fortunate to have acquired such a descriptive address. How did I get it? I went to GoDaddy and had a list of websites that I thought would work. On their automated form, you type in the address you would like to have, and GoDaddy searches the Internet to see if it's available. I was very surprised when the one I wanted was available. Then, I paid them a paltry $10, for it. I tried using their software to build my website, but that didn't work out too well for me. So what did I do? I think you're going to guess the answer, before I write it. Yep, I went to Blogger and started a new "blog". I have to say, it works like a charm. All of you know what the word blog stands for, don't you? It's an abbreviated version of "web log."

When you're under the gun, you use what works. I am under the gun to get my house sold. I am going about this rather unconventionally, but I think it's going to work. Having called the local newspaper and the local classified-ads paper, I asked them both, would they publish my web address? The classified ads paper had no problem with it whatsoever. After I explained to the local newspaper that it was a web address that I owned, and that I would only be advertising my house for sale on it, they agreed that they would publish my web-address, also. I am having two large, very visible banners made. One for the waterside and one for the street side of my property. It has my website address and my phone number on it.

Hopefully, I will draw enough traffic to find the right buyer for my place. One thing I am doing, though, is including a line pertaining to the fact that I will not show this property, without an appointment. Maybe I can do a little screening on the phone. I was a finance manager, once. I should be able to qualify my perspective clients.

Why am I doing it this way? Well for one, it is simply a matter of economics. My expenses for publicity will be less than $1000. Also, I have a knack for salesmanship. I would love the convenience of a Realtor, but I would like to avoid paying a $20,000 commission. For $20,000, I am willing to put up with some inconvenience.

It is my sincere hope that you are cool and relaxed, not out in the heat and not stressing. You know what the mind gurus say about stress and worry, don't you? They say it's like paying interest on a debt, that you have yet to incur. How about let's chill and listen to some rockabilly?

Life long friends!!

Thank you everyone. You guys have been incredible. When I started my blog, I didn't know what to expect or if anyone besides my friends would read it. This past November, when I decided I wanted to be a full-timer, I searched the Internet for information about full-time RVing. It took a while, but I finally stumbled on to other's blogs, about the subject of  RV-full-timers. I read probably a half a dozen, all the way from the start. I loved reading about like-minded people. I really have never done any writing, other than in school, so it was a reach for me to start my own blog. I did my first post about four months ago. To my amazement, I have had over 8500 hits.(as of this morning). I know that's not many compared to some of you, or to the hits leader, Mr. Tioga George, but I'm impressed and humbled, and I owe it all to you. (heart felt appreciation!)

  3. What RV do you have? You need to do a blog post on your RV. We have a Class-C and were going to upgrade to a larger Class-A, but decided the "C" can go places the "A" can't and it is big enough for us now. Full timing would be different, then we would want a Class-A

  5. What? You didn't like Carl Perkins? The original Rockabilly? He was doing Elvis before Elvis. That crash he had dropped him out of the running and his career.

  6. Ben, he was featured 3 posts ago. And yes, I dig Carl and Jerry Lee, too. Sam Phillips had it going on.
